Strategy like the word brand is overused and misused. It is too often used as a marker in meetings to signify that the speaker is saying something profound and intellectual - and is taking the discussion to a more elevated level. Frequently the kind of person who uses this kind of gambit follows with a correction about needing to live in the real worldat which point anything remotely strategic is abandoned in favour of doing something pragmatic and tactical at best.
Stategy is sacrifice. A strategic choice can be defined as easily by the things you choose not to do as the single thing you do decide to do. You haven't enough time resources and budget to do everything. So you prioritise doing those things that give you the best return. And you keep at it. You don't change what you're doing just because you've followed a strategy once. If you keep choosing a series of different goals, or prioritising one audience after another till you've covered them all then you don't have a strategy. So don't waste your time talking about it - you're just doing stuff. This is important for waggledancers who need to take other people with them. Because if you keep changing your tune you will confuse people. So decide what is most important. And stick to your guns. And stop using the strategy word unless you mean it.
